Cholesterol Reducing Cheese Alternative

What is LoCol

LoCol is an alternative cheese product that tastes and performs like Cheddar cheese. This is because the product is made in exactly the same way, the only difference being that the cream is removed from the milk and replaced with vegetable oil. All other ingredients are the same as per standard Cheddar cheese. LoCol is matured in the same way as Cheddar and develops cheese flavour in exactly the same way.

Cholesterol issues came to the forefront of medical conditions as one of the major contributors to heart disease, several products were developed to target the reduction of cholesterol.

Cheese is a product that, due to relatively high fat content and the high levels of saturated fats contained in that fat is 'off the menu' for sufferers of high cholesterol and diabetes.

LoCol gives the consumer the ability to enjoy that Cheddary taste back into the diet, whilst reducing cholesterol.

*The beneficial cholesterol reducing effect is obtained with a daily intake of 1.5-3g of various plant sterol/stanol containing products as part of a well balanced, healthy, cholesterol reducing diet, which may include LoCol, cholesterol reducing spreads, drinks and yogurts to name but a few.

LoCol is currently available in Sainsbury's, Waitrose and online from The Northumberland Cheese Company.
